Born in 1953 in Bronx, NY. Trimiar developed an interest in boxing after seeing televised bouts and visiting local gyms. She soon began boxing exhibitions and made her amateur debut on May 1, 1974.

Trimiar, who worked out regularly at Gleason’s Gym, turned pro in Canada on December 22, 1975. Limited to competing in the few states that permitted female boxing, she applied for a license to box in her home state, only to be denied. Following a drawn out legal battle that included suits by other women, on September 19, 1978, Trimiar, along with Jackie Tonawanda and Cat Davis, were among the first women granted licenses in the Empire State. On March 31, 1979, the 5’4” “Lady Tyger” defeated Sue “KO” Carlson (W 10) for the women’s world lightweight title. Following a period of inactivity, she was stripped of the belt in June 1981. Trimiar, who was managed by Paul Mitrano, stopped Diane Clark via 2nd round TKO on March 13, 1985 in her last professional bout and hung up her gloves with a record of 14-4 (5 KOs).

A tireless advocate for women in the sport, the pioneering force in women’s boxing waged a hunger strike in 1987 to campaign for better working conditions for female boxers including economic parity, major network coverage and sponsorship.
